This is a free online Snow Day Calculator that can help you calculate the likelihood of having a snow day. This calculate factors the severity and duration of the storm, the number of previous snow days, and aspects of the school to determine the probability of the school closing for a snow day.
First, at the top of the Snow Day Calculator, choose the start time the snow storm on the left. On the right you can pick whether this snow storm began the day of the potential snow day or the day before and whether it began in the morning or evening. Below this enter the time that the storm should end in a similar fashion. Next click the drop box to choose the type of storm. Then enter the number between 0 and 100 for the percentage of the storm happening. Below this enter the temperature of the snow day at 7am in Fahrenheit. To choose the day of the week click the drop box and pick a weekday. It will automatically provide a date. Below this you can choose the type of school whether it is public, rural public, suburban public, private/prep, or a boarding school. Then enter the number of previous snow days there have been this year. Below this, you can choose the leniency of the school administration. To do this, click the circle for easy, ok, or harsh. If there are any special activities/events that day click the box for yes. If not, do not click anything. If the school is in a mountainous area then click the box for yes. At the end of the page, enter a number for the hype of the school day, 0 being no hype and 3 being extremely hyped. Finally, click the button that says calculate and the Snow Day Calculator will show you the probability of a snow day.
